Thatmorning,19terrorists[2]affiliatedwithal-Qaeda[3]hijackedfourcommercialpassengerjetairliners.Eachteamofhijackersincludedatrainedpilot.Twoaircraft(UnitedAirlinesFlight175andAmericanAirlinesFlight11)crashedintotheWorldTradeCenterinNewYorkCity,oneplaneintoeachtower(WTC1andWTC2).Bothtowerscollapsedwithintwohours,followedbyWTC7laterthatday.ThepilotofthethirdteamcrashedAmericanAirlinesFlight77intothePentagoninArlingtonCounty,Virginia.Passengersandmembersoftheflightcrewonthefourthaircraft(UnitedAirlinesFlight93)attemptedtoretakecontroloftheirplanefromthehijackers;thatplanecrashedintoafieldnearthetownofShanksvilleinruralSomersetCounty,Pennsylvania.Aswellasthe19hijackers,aconfirmed2,973peoplediedandanother24aremissingbutpresumeddeadasaresultoftheseattacks.
